Do you want to sell your idea, or leave a lasting impression on the people that you’re speaking to? Then presenting is a core skill to master. This course approaches presenting from a holistic point of view, and focuses on the various aspects that factor into sharpening one’s public speaking skills. It will incorporate various real-life scenarios in which you might find yourself having to pitch, present, or explain, and focus on gestures, intonation, and body language. It will also look into the external factors that can affect presentations, and the audience’s perception of one’s presentation.
Module one will teach you how to present yourself adequately to people, understand why presentations are given, and create a distinction between the different presentation styles that can be applied. Moreover you will be able to identify key elements that are needed for a successful presentation.
Module two will focus on body language, and the power of influence that this can have on audiences’ perceptions of what is being said, in both a positive and negative way. The focus will be on learning how to identify different audience types, and understand the meaning behind certain gestures and facial expressions. Importance will be given to bodily posture, and students will be shown how certain gestures may have different connotations depending on the country or culture.
Module three will delve deeper into the importance of cultural differences and the effect that these will have on the audience to whom you are presenting. The units will emphasize on the importance of research, both in terms of the current audience and of the environment, and how to use resources in the most advantageous ways.
Module four will focus on creating more engaging presentations, and explore online tools that can be used to make presentations fun, interesting and interactive. Such tools include ICT Tools like Prezi and Canva, and audience engagement tools like Mentimeter and Slido. This means that even when presenting to an online audience, the interaction can be kept engaging, no matter from which part of the world people are listening in.
Module five deals with the stress that may be induced from the thought of presenting in front of an audience. It will teach you how to identify stress, and manage it effectively through better planning of presentation content. Moreover, you will learn about the AIDA model, and how to apply this to your presentation.
